The evening includes …

  • The Spree Cruise
Experience the most exciting kilometres that the Spree has to offer, on its way through the heart of Berlin. A variety of consecutively strung sights create a unique scenery for an unforgettable experience. Within the last few years the tradition-steeped city on the Spree has developed at a breathtaking pace. This transformation has distinctively altered the face of Berlin. Our cruise on the Spree will take you past countless places of historical significance, but also bring the attention on the lively metropolis into focus, where the future has already begun and is reflected in high-quality architecture of international appeal.

Focused View. On the configuration of medical body images in wax models
    and specimens”
    | Prof. Thomas Schnalke
From its very beginnings on, medicine has tried very successfully to direct and focus the view of the viewers by its ingenious image worlds: beneath the skin into the depths of a highly functional “body machinery” consisting of organs and tissues, as well as onto the skin to study surfaces and formations especially of typical signs of diseases. The findings have been documented in a large variety of different media and materials – drawn, photographed, printed, scanned and animated with the help of servers and clouds but also kept in 3D as true dry and wet specimens or as replicas made from plaster, wood, plastics or wax. In my talk I will focus on the steering of the medical gaze referring to wax models, anatomical and pathological specimens and clinical moulages in former times. The question is whether current body images in society are directly linked to something like a medical iconography and how modern medical imaging is linked to this visual tradition.

  • The Congress Dinner
A dinner buffet and drinks will be provided during your stay on board. The buffet will be served inside the FMS Spree-Comtess in its modern lounge and will include a soup, cold and hot dishes as well as a dessert.

Please note that the number of participants is limited and pre-registration is required. Tickets are available for only € 60 per person and can be bought via the online registration portal.
